VIDEO: Louth musician David Keenan pays musical tribute at Lord Henry Mount Charles’ funeral

Dundalk singer-songwriter David Keenan gave a moving musical tribute at the funeral of Lord Henry Mount Charles, the owner of Slane Castle.

The service took place at St Patrick's Church of Ireland in Slane yesterday and drew mourners from across Ireland and beyond, all gathered to pay their respects.

David Keenan, a well-known voice in the local music scene, performed a stirring rendition of The Parting Glass. A video of the performance is featured below.

Before taking to the microphone, Keenan addressed the congregation with heartfelt words about his personal connection to Lord Henry:

“It’s an honour to be here today at this visionary’s funeral; custodian of Irish culture and art.

"I first sang this song at the launch of Slane Whiskey in Boyles a few years ago, and afterwards, Henry came up to me and he put his hand on my shoulder and said, ‘You’ll go places, boy. Discipline – you’ll need discipline.’

"I think he noticed how well I was availing of the free whiskey at the bar.”

The tribute drew warm laughter through the solemn atmosphere.
