€1m for Ardee Castle will close funding shortfall says Louth councillor

Tánaiste Simon Harris with Cllr Dolores Minogue

Ardee representative, Cllr Dolores Minogue, has said that the additional €1 million in funding allocated to Louth County Council for the regeneration of Ardee Castle will close the funding shortfall that the local authority had been facing, having raised the issue directly with Tánaiste Simon Harris during a recent meeting in Government Buildings.
The funding, which was announced today, will support a wide range of works, including: structural conservation and restoration of the castle’s historic tower; development of visitor access and interpretive features; public realm improvements and landscaping; and educational and community engagement initiatives.
In comments to the Dundalk Democrat following the announcement, the Fine Gael councillor said: "I’m delighted to hear that an additional €1 million in funding has been secured for the regeneration of Ardee Castle. This crucial support, allocated by the Department of Rural and Community Development and confirmed by Minister Dara Calleary, will close the funding shortfall that Louth County Council had been facing."
Cllr Minogue continued, "I was pleased to raise this issue directly with Tánaiste Simon Harris during a recent meeting in Government Buildings, and it’s fantastic to now see this funding allocated to Louth County Council.
"A big thank you to the dedicated officials in LCC, the local traders of Ardee Town who have worked so hard to support and promote this project, and of course the general public whose continued interest and enthusiasm has helped keep the vision for Ardee Castle alive."
Cllr Minogue added, "I’m really looking forward to the reopening of this fantastic landmark in the heart of our town!"
