Louth community invited to help shape Ireland’s nature restoration plan at Omeath event

Omeath walk and workshop will explore local voices in Ireland’s nature plan

Louth community invited to help shape Ireland’s nature restoration plan at Omeath event

The day will begin with a walk along the Greenway path

ACT and Hometree are hosting Community Conversations across Ireland. This collaborative project aims to give people a chance to help shape Ireland's 25-year Nature Restoration Plan. Discussions, workshops, and walks will take place in all provinces throughout September and October, bringing communities together to share their stories, ideas and lived experiences.

One of these events will take place on Saturday, October 11th, in Omeath on the shores of Carlingford Lough in Louth. The day will begin with a walk along the Greenway path accompanied by local farmer and environmentalist, John Ross Mac Mathúna and marine biologist Lucy Taylor.

The discussion will be about the various land uses around the Lough and the Lough itself.  The walk will start at 11:30am from the carpark at the Dolmen Centre in Omeath. This will be followed by a Community Conversations Workshop from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Dolmen Centre in Omeath.

Organisers say that:

“Everyone is welcome and no sign-up is necessary. We particularly welcome people who may feel that they are excluded from conversations around nature. We would like to acknowledge the support of the staff in the Dolmen Centre and Suzie Cahn of the Shifting Tides project in organising this event.

“These conversations are designed to be authentic, inclusive, and impactful, building trust in Ireland's Nature Restoration Plan. By fostering open dialogue and shared learning, they will help shape nature policy that reflects the voices and lived experiences of communities. Insights gathered from these events will be presented to the Independent Advisory Committee, ensuring community voices are heard in partnership with the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

“This is more than a consultation; it's an opportunity for communities to be part of something lasting. We warmly invite individuals and communities to join the conversation and share the event details within their own networks to reach as many voices as possible. Your voice and your community matter. Together, we can shape Ireland’s future with nature at its heart.”
