Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) and Eirmersive, the voice of the Irish Immersive Sector, have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive cutting-edge research and showcase leading Irish industry leveraging immersive tech.

Eirmersive is Ireland’s national representative body for the immersive technology sector, supporting the promotion of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR). Eirmersive represents over 40 companies in the sector, and its aim is to position Ireland as a global leader in immersive innovation and creative excellence.

The agreement between Eirmersive and DkIT outlines several key areas of collaboration. These include joint projects focused on immersive technologies, the active pursuit of national and international funding opportunities, and the exploration of a dedicated cluster to drive industrial applications of immersive tech. The partnership also aims to strengthen connections between industry leaders, researchers, and academics.

Skills development and education form another area of the agreement. Eirmersive will support curriculum and course development at DkIT, deliver guest lectures, and collaborate on student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The partnership also plans to engage with the DkIT Careers and Employability Centre to enhance talent development and recruitment.

Speaking at the signing of the MoU, Dr Diarmuid O’Callaghan, DkIT President said:

“Research and technological advances are essential for delivering high-quality education. Signing this Memorandum of Understanding with Eirmersive marks a significant step in deepening our collaboration with local industry and communities across Ireland. Immersive technologies are transforming both education and the workplace, and we look forward to seeing how this agreement will enhance our research, enrich our teaching, and strengthen local industry partnerships.”

One of the first areas of collaboration highlighted in the MoU is the PRISM Immersive Technology Summit. Taking place on Wednesday, 29th October in DkIT, PRISM is a landmark all-island gathering for innovators, business leaders and researchers working at the intersection of extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence (AI) and digital twins.

Delivered in partnership with DkIT, PRISM will showcase how these technologies are already transforming industries and creating measurable ROI.  The event will showcase pioneering work in XR, AI, and digital twin technologies, feature live demos from Eirmersive members and deep dives into sector-specific challenges across industries like construction, manufacturing, health tech, and energy. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network with up to 150 decision-makers, innovators, and solution providers from Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Camille Donegan, CEO of Eirmersive said:

“This Memorandum of Understanding with DkIT marks an important step in building long-term capacity for immersive technologies and digital innovation in the North East. As Ireland’s national body for the immersive sector, Eirmersive are delighted to partner with a forward-looking institution that shares our vision of connecting research, industry, and talent. Hosting our inaugural PRISM Immersive Technology summit, focusing on the value add of converging technologies for industry, here in DkIT on 29th October is just the beginning - together we are laying the foundations for the region to become a hub of technological innovation that will benefit local enterprises, students, and communities for years to come as well as benefiting the wider all-island ecosystem.
