Independent Living Units and associated amenities in a mix of new and refurbished buildings planned
Plans are underway for a new retirement village in Dundalk, with a planning application lodged in recent days with Louth County Council.
Dundalk Racing (1999) Limited has applied for planning permission for the development at Dundalk Stadium, Racecourse Road, Dundalk, seeking the go ahead for a retirement village located in and around the former RIC stables and car park.
The proposed retirement village would accommodate 46 independent living units and associated amenities in a mix of new and refurbished buildings.
The development includes the construction of 38 single storey one-bedroom units with private gardens/terraces; restoration and change of use of the semi-derelict former RIC stables to accommodate eight units, comprising six one-bedroom and two, two-bedroom units, over two levels; and associated services comprising reception, management office, doctor's office, caretaker’s workshop, community room and café.
The application also provides for items including vehicular and pedestrian access from the existing stadium access road; landscaped communal open spaces, boundary treatments, 48 car parking spaces, cycle parking, bin storage and associated site works and services.
A decision is due on the application, which is at a pre-validation stage, by 27 November, with submissions to be lodged with Louth County Council by 6 November 2025.
