The wee county of Louth has once again demonstrated its exceptional community spirit and environmental commitment, securing five Gold Medals in the prestigious 2025 SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition, announced last Friday at Croke Park.

The Gold Medal winners include Blackrock, Dundalk, Drogheda, Ardee, and Dromiskin, with Dromiskin also taking home the County Award. Tallanstown and Carlingford earned Silver Medals, while Knockbridge received a Bronze Medal, reflecting the county’s broad and consistent excellence.

Omeath was recognised with the Endeavour Award for its significant improvement in performance. In addition, Dromiskin claimed two more accolades: the Midlands and East Regional Youth Award and the Greenways and Active Travel Award, showcasing its leadership in youth engagement and sustainable development.

With 23 towns and villages participating, Louth’s high level of involvement highlights the strength of its local communities. The combined efforts of residents, businesses, and Louth County Council’s partnership with Tidy Town groups continue to enhance the county’s appearance and address local challenges.

Cllr Seán Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, commented: “This is a tremendous achievement for County Louth, which consistently ranks among the top performers in this national competition. These results are a testament to the dedication and pride found in every town and village across the county.”

David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council, added: “I’m delighted with the achievements of all the Tidy Towns groups across Louth. Five gold medals – which is one more than last year - as well as the two silver medals and a bronze is an excellent achievement.

"The exceptionally high standard of urban and village enhancements is evident throughout the county. This success is a direct result of the dedication and hard work of our volunteers, who consistently uphold these standards and contribute to making Louth a vibrant and welcoming place to live and visit.”
