Gardaí in Louth recently seized a vehicle after discovering a long list of serious road safety and compliance breaches during a routine patrol.

Gardai from Drogheda Garda Station were carrying out proactive patrols when they noticed a car driving without a rear licence plate. On stopping the vehicle, Gardaí found that the missing plate was only the beginning of the driver’s troubles.

According to An Garda Síochána, checks revealed the car had no insurance, no tax, no valid NCT, and was being driven with two bald front tyres.

The vehicle was seized on the spot under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act, which allows Gardaí to impound uninsured or unroadworthy vehicles. The driver was issued with summonses for no insurance, as well as a €400 fixed penalty notice and three penalty points.

In a social media post, Gardaí highlighted the incident with a dash of humour, noting the car’s “to-do list included… everything!” But they also used the opportunity to remind motorists of the serious safety and legal implications of driving an unroadworthy vehicle.

“Let’s keep the roads safe for everyone,” the post read. “Make sure your vehicle is roadworthy, taxed, and insured before you set off.”
