The Ardee WW1 Commemoration took place last Sunday 8 November at 11am at the Fair Green in Ardee. The monument at the Fair Green remembers the 57 men from Ardee and the surrounding area, who fought and died in WW1, and those who died in other conflicts around the world, along with the United Nations Peace Keepers.

The unveiling of the monument at the Fair Green was the last official engagement of the Ardee Town Council, before it was abolished in 2014. The monument was designed by Alice O'Hare & Eileen McKenny.

The five plaques represent each year of the war with the names of those who died in that year. The sixth plaque is a verse of a poem by Frances Ledwidge he wrote before his death in Passchendaele in 1917. Ledwidge is buried in Ypres in Belgium.

Organisers of the commemoration say they would like to thank Louth County Council and Susan Deary for opening the Courthouse and providing a wreath, and to Nicky Callan for playing the last post and reveille.
