Louth County Council litter warden van
Louth County Council says that its litter wardens carried out 378 investigations in response to dumping reported by members of the public in the county last month, with 17 Fixed Penalty Notices issued October where evidence was found under the Litter Pollution Act 1997.
The local authority said that its litter wardens continue to deal with all litter matters within the county daily responding to complaints from members of the public, councillors and engaging with tidy towns groups and communities.
It revealed that the local authority had two successful prosecutions from unpaid Fixed Penalty Notices last month, with both fined €1,000 and €450 expenses each.
Louth County Council's Litter Enforcement also removed reported abandoned vehicles from various areas within the county.

The local authority also revealed that its Waste Enforcement team carried out vehicle checkpoints in various locations around the county, facilitated by An Garda Siochana. A "significant level" of noncompliance with the waste collection permits was observed, it added, and three Fixed Penalty Notices for €500 each will be issued.
With regards dog fouling, five-hour foot patrols were undertaken by the litter wardens on 15 October, covering areas in Dundalk Town and suburbs. The main emphasis was on awareness of dog fouling and owners cleaning-up after their dog.
