Brothers who attacked 15 year old boy after he stole wages belonging to one of them, have been jailed
Two brothers who attacked a 15 year old boy after he stole wages belonging to one of them, have been jailed at Dundalk Circuit Court.
Nadeem Hossain (24) and Nahid Hossain (23) who are both also known as Duffy, of Dowdalls Crescent, Newry Road, Dundalk were originally also charged with violent disorder arising out of the incident at The Ramparts, Dundalk on April 18th 2022, but that count was taken into consideration at their sentencing hearing after they pleaded guilty to assault causing harm.
The victim was walking when a car suddenly pulled up alongside him. Four people got out and Nadeem Hossain, who was armed with a baseball bat, hit him on the back of his head and his body.
A woman hit him with a hammer and the teen’s friends saw one of the group stamp on his head, before security from the Marshes Shopping Centre intervened. The youth was bleeding from his head when gardai arrived and there was blood on the ground.
The assault was captured on CCTV and the court heard that Nadeem Hossain initially said he didn’t use a weapon, but then said it was over money he believed the 15 year old had stolen from him and he admitted lifting him by the throat, battering him on the ground and stamping on his head.

Bloodstains were also found on his tracksuit bottoms. When it was put to him that he could have killed the boy with the bat, he said he didn’t think of that. Nahid Hossain denied any involvement.
The victim didn’t want to pursue the matter while the Defence barrister described it as a family dispute that made its way into the public arena and the teen had left the jurisdiction and returned to his home country.
He stressed that neither defendant has come to subsequent adverse attention and they are very remorseful.
Nahid Hossain was also before the court for having cocaine for sale or supply on April fifth 2021, after it was found 'down his trousers and in his underwear' during a search at Dundalk Garda Station.
The takeaway delivery driver claimed he used the magic mushrooms, which were also recovered, for his anxiety, but he had no explanation for €850 in cash as had no source of income at the time as he wasn't working.
Judge Dara Hayes said the victim of the assault was a child and the pair were not entitled to mete out their own justice. He jailed Nadeem Hossain to two years and jailed Nahid Hossain for a total of three years and three months.
