Fianna Fáil TD Erin McGreehan has welcomed the allocation of over €221,000 to support the expansion of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence (DSGBV) services across Louth, describing the funding as “a vital step in strengthening support for survivors.”
The funding comes at a time of growing demand for these services with more than 1,600 reports of domestic violence were made nationally during Christmas week last year.
The allocation forms part of a wider national funding package of €3.2 million for 67 services across the country.
Services in Louth to receive funding include:
  • €21,325 for Dignity 4 Patients;
  • €92,307 for Drogheda Women’s Refuge;
  • €700 for Dundalk Counselling Service;
  • €106,817 for Rape Crisis North East.
The funding will support the expansion of services like counselling services, improved access to domestic and sexual violence services, increased capacity to respond to rising demand across national helplines.
Commenting on the announcement, Deputy McGreehan said:
“Domestic, sexual and gender-based violence has no place in our society. Yet too many people continue to suffer in silence, feeling isolated, alone and unsure of where to turn for help.
“Today’s funding announcement will ensure that more supports are available locally. As awareness grows and more people come forward seeking assistance, it is essential that we have the appropriate level of service delivery in place to meet that demand.
“As we work towards a zero-tolerance approach to domestic and gender-based violence, I want people to know that help is available. These services are delivered by dedicated and experienced professionals who will support individuals through the hardship they are facing. No one has to face this alone.”
