An unlicensed and uninsured HGV driver was stopped during an operation carried out by Dundalk Roads Policing Unit (RPU) in conjunction with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) last week.
Gardaí were stopping and inspecting heavy goods vehicles when the HGV was intercepted. During the check, the driver attempted to provide false details at the scene.
Following further enquiries by members of the Roads Policing Unit, it was established that the driver did not hold a valid HGV driving licence and was not insured to drive the vehicle.
Gardaí also discovered that the driver did not have a tachograph card, which is required to accurately record driving hours.

A subsequent inspection of the vehicle revealed that one of the tyres was dangerously defective.
