Narrow Water Bridge linking Louth and Down on track to be completed in 2027

Narrow Water Bridge, which will span the narrowest point of Carlingford Lough, and link Louth to Down is expected to be completed on schedule, by the end of 2027. 

Louth County Council confirmed that nearly half of the construction works have already been completed. 

The bridge will connect Cornamucklagh near Omeath, Co. Louth, and Narrow Water, near Warrenpoint, Co. Dow

It is expected long to be 195 meters and accommodate vehicles, cyclists as well as pedestrians. 

The timeline update revealed at the latest meeting of Louth County Council and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. It is part of a cross-border "Strategic Alliance" set up in 2011. 

A new action plan was agreed at the meeting, which included developing the "tourism potential" of the Narrow Water Bridge. 

Cllr Antóin Watter from Louth County Council said the alliance is an important forum for cross-border co-operation and collaboration around health and community safety. 

Cllr Declan McAteer from Newry, Mourne and Down District Council said due to the challenges facing the world today, co-operation is "not just an option" but a "necessity". 

"Working together we can better serve the people of this region and expand our local cross-border economy in a tangible and meaningful way." 

"The Strategic Alliance is proof that collaboration works, and it matters now more than ever," he said.
