Exhibtion 'In My Time' coming to Dundalk's An Táin Arts Centre

Art piece by Denis O Connor

Denis O Connor’s exhibition ‘In My Time’ runs 8th January to 21st February in An Tain Arts Centre with an opening launch on Wednesday 7th January at 7pm.

‘In My Time’ brings together a powerful body of sculptural work exploring memory, loss, longing, and the enduring question - ‘where is home?’

Drawing on autobiographical narratives, the exhibition reflects on O’Connor’s cultural and personal histories, from growing up in 1960s Ireland to a life lived between two countries.

Forged, hammered, welded, and fabricated in mild steel, corten, stainless steel, and bronze, the sculptures feature recurring forms such as ladders, boats, houses, chairs, boulders, and tools.

Both symbolic and structural, these works speak to themes of emigration, adoption, landscape, and belonging.

Denis O’Connor was born in Dublin and raised in Millstreet, Co Cork; he works and lives between Wirksworth, Derbyshire and Barna, West Cork. He trained at Limerick School of Art and Design, and the University of Central England.

Over the last 25 years, Denis has produced site-specific public art sculptures that can be seen around Ireland and in the UK, sited in both urban and rural sites within the private and public sectors; these include works installed in Andover, Ballyshannon, Belfast, Cardiff, Cork, Chesterfield, Clonmel, Derby, Dundalk, Leicester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Newtownstewart, Stoke-on-Trent, and Waterford.

All are welcome to the opening launch on Wednesday 7th January at 7pm at An Táin Arts Centre’s Basement Gallery or you can visit throughout the exhibition period, running 8th January to 21st February.
