It is hopes the €600 million funding will make it easier for SMEs to deliver housing
Housing Minister James Browne has announced there will be a €600 million investment in housing.
The State will contribute €400 million while the national banking sector will provide the other €200 million.
It is hoped the funding will provide equity capital to SME developers allowing them to increase housing delivery.
Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan welcomed the announcement, and said the State must do more to hit housing targets but said this investment will allow many more many more small and medium-sized developers to participate in delivering much-needed homes.
“Increasing supply is central to tackling the housing crisis and local SME developers will play a vital role in that effort,” she said.
The announcement comes off the back of Department of Housing figures that show there has been the lowest number of house commencements in Louth nationally since 2016.
The figures showed work on just 415 homes in Louth had began, compared to 2,543 in the first 11 months of 2024.
