Funding of over €15,000 to be allocated to seven schools in Louth

Seven schools in Louth are to receive between €1,000 to €2,500 for sustainable developments projects

Seven primary and schools in Louth will receive between €1,000 and €2,500 as part of a €15,327 funding package under the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Programme.

The programme supports sustainable development projects such as school gardens, recycling systems and and outdoor classrooms.

The schools across Louth to benefit include:

  • €2,495 for Redeemer Girls National School for an app to rate school meals and tackle food waste.
  • €2,500 for Scoil Caoimhin Naofa for the redevelopment of a sensory garden.
  • €2,368 for St Paul’s SNS for an outdoor classroom.
  • €2,000 for Ardee Community School for a waste management system and a outdoor classroom.
  • €2,100 for Our Lady’s College for a polytunnel.
  • €1,864 for Scoil na Sceachóige for a composter and shrubs for an outdoor learning space.
  • €2,000 for St Joseph's CBS Secondary School for a biodiversity garden.

Fianna Fáil TD for Louth Erin McGreehan welcomed the funding saying these projects will help to spark curiosity among young people.

“That is why this funding is so important. It provides meaningful support to schools and teachers and, most importantly, empowers students to explore, understand, and take action on sustainability issues."

“It is essential that learners are given the opportunity to develop the skills needed to support, promote, and actively participate in sustainable development initiatives," she said.

Deputy McGreehan said this year's projects place a strong emphasis on local-level action, which build vital partnerships for sustainability and helps strengthen community involvement.
