An Táin Book Club returns to Dundalk's Roe River Books

An Táin Arts Centre’s book club returns to Roe River Books on Thursday, 29th January at 8pm, for a discussion of this month’s selected read, the The Bee Sting by Paul Murray.

The Book Club has been going strong since April 2020 and meets in Roe River Books on Clanbrassil Street.

The Bee Sting depicts the dysfunctional, hapless lives of the Barnes family, whose wealthy Irish car dealership is collapsing due to financial hardship and a series of personal failings.

The story shifts perspectives between the family members throughout the book to show how they each grapple with individual crises, unspoken secrets, and the wider issues of economic and environmental decline.

Last year’s An Táin Arts Centre Book Club of the year was the Irish novel ‘Prophet Song’ by Paul Lynch, voted by members.

Paul Hayes Director of An Táin Arts Centre and host of the book club, said: “We kick off 2026 with one of the best books I read last year, I’m really looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks of The Bee Sting.

"It’s unbelievable to think this is the 64th book we have read as part of book club and we are always open to new members.”

The book club is free and no booking is required, however we do ask that members register via our website so that they can keep up to date with all book club news and avail of some exclusive book club offers.
