A new Irish-language campaign celebrating the County Louth has been launched by Louth County Council.

The campaign called 'StairLú' which celebrates the stories, folklore, culture and people of Louth will run across the local authority's social media channels in the lead up to St Patrick's Day.

Louth County Council said the campaign will showcase some of the most distinctive and lesser-known aspects of Louth's cultural landscape, including the county’s vibrant murals, Louth’s ‘forgotten Gaeltacht’, and the growing PopUp Gaeltacht movement.

The campaign will also feature interviews, conducted ‘as Gaeilge’, with local historians and elected members, along with dedicated content to mark Louth’s Seachtain na Gaeilge and St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Cllr Seán Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council said the Irish language is at the heart of Louth's history and identity.

"It is a living link to our stories, our heritage, and our sense of place. It belongs to all of us, whether we speak it every day or are only beginning to explore it. As we approach our national holiday, there is no better moment to bring Irish to the forefront and use it, enjoy it, and celebrate it proudly,” he said.

Susan Deery, Irish Language Officer with Louth County Council, added:

“Louth has a deep and enduring relationship with the Irish language, from its historic Gaeltacht roots to the various organisations who continue to speak and celebrate Irish today. Through #StairLú, the Council aims to honour that heritage, highlight the county’s cultural identity, and show how the Irish language remains a living, meaningful part of life in Louth. We are proud to support and promote Irish as part of our ongoing commitment to serving our communities bilingually,” she said.
