Grants of up to €65,000 are available. Each county may also submit two larger projects for funding of up to €100,000
Louth County Council is inviting community groups, sports clubs, voluntary organisations and local committees in Castlebellingham and the Cooley peninsula to attend information sessions about applying for funding under Measure 1 of the 2026 CLÁR Programme.
The information sessions will take place at 6:00pm on Monday, 13 April in the Carlingford Tourist Office and at 6:00pm on Tuesday, 14 April in O’Connell’s GFC Clubrooms, Castlebellingham.
At these sessions, groups will receive clear information about the funding available and practical advice to help them prepare an application.
CLÁR is a national programme that supports small community projects in rural areas. These projects aim to improve everyday life for local residents. Under Measure 1, groups can apply for funding to create or improve community facilities such as sports facilities, youth clubs, teenage spaces, playgrounds, sensory gardens and walking tracks.
Grants of up to €65,000 are available. Each county may also submit two larger projects for funding of up to €100,000.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, recently confirmed that County Louth’s CLÁR area has been expanded for 2026. As well as the Cooley peninsula, the Electoral Division of Castlebellingham is now included. This means that more communities in County Louth can now apply for support for local facilities and projects.
Bryan Coughlan, Senior Executive Officer at Louth County Council, encouraged all eligible groups to attend the information sessions:
“We want to see as many local groups as possible benefit from this year’s CLÁR programme. These information sessions are a great chance to learn about the supports available and how they can help your community. If your group has a project idea that would improve local facilities or create new opportunities for people in your area, we strongly encourage you to come along.”
