Culture Club said it is proud to present Sea Legs Open Mic Collective with special guest Matt Sucich.

Sea Legs Open Mic Collective, which celebrates 10 years this year, will take place in the Spirit Store on Wednesday, April 15th at 8.30pm with special guest performer Matt Sucich.

Matt Sucich is a New York based singer songwriter who has released six highly regarded albums the latest being ‘Talking at Walls’.

He’s currently in between records, touring heavily in Canadian singer/songwriter Kathleen Edwards' band, and writing new music.

Matt said: “My most recent release,'Talking At Walls', is a live record recorded to no one.

“I had been playing out with a small band for a while and a number of my previously released songs were changing shape a bit, as live performances will tend to do.

“I flew the band, and a small film crew, down to Nashville to capture the songs live to tape. No overdubs.

“It was meant to be a video project exclusively, but after hearing everything back we decided to put it out as a record.

“Some songs dating as far back as ten years old, Montauk, Dog Eared Page, and others pulled from 2023's Holy Smokes.

“The record closes with an acoustic track called Crazy Time To Be Alive, the only "new" song in the bunch because...it's just a crazy time to be alive.”

In between Matt’s contributions on the night in the Spirit Store there will be the usual Sea Legs ensemble.

People are invited to come along and contribut. A song, poem, comedy routine, soliloquy, aria, riff, improv, ballad, lilt, tone poem, shriek, yodel all such things are welcome.

A microphone, a guitar, a piano and a room of ears. Here’s a call out to all who wish to try out their thing in front of a live audience.

An opportunity to make that move, step into the discomfort zone and realise your potential as a singer, musician, performer. It’s the perfect place to try out new songs/compositions or just sing a song you love to sing.

“Matt Sucich is my favorite New York songwriter.

“There is something quintessentially New York school about him.

“I love the way he writes, the detail of it and the effortless brilliance of his guitar playing.” - Adam Duritz, Counting Crows

“Sucich is a straight dealer. There is no artifice in his storytelling.

“His relatable, sad, and funny three-act song-plays help me learn as much about myself as I do about him while he questions his motives, his surroundings, and observes the weird dance of humanity” - James Campion, The Aquarian

“Working class but not ashamed, a storyteller who finds clever ways to say things, a man of ethics but someone who is willing to explore empathy from every angle.

“There aren’t a lot of people making music like Matt Sucich right now.” - Katie Mullins, Underwater Sunshine.
