Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Seán Canney TD has confirmed that the new Drogheda Driving Test Centre will open in May
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has today announced the opening of a new driving test centre in Drogheda, marking what ist says is a positive step forward in expanding testing capacity and improving access for learner drivers in the region.
The new test centre, which will be located at Southgate Shopping Centre, will support learner drivers in Drogheda and the wider surrounding area by increasing local access to testing and helping more applicants to progress on their journey towards obtaining a full driving licence.
This new centre forms part of what the RSA says is its ongoing work to strengthen the national driver testing network and to respond to demand where it arises. Capacity at the Drogheda centre will be kept under active review and will be based on real-time response to demand, ensuring resources are deployed where they are most needed across the national network.
Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Sean Canney, said: “I very much welcome the opening of this new driving test centre in Drogheda.
"This is a positive development for learner drivers in the area and demonstrates the continued focus on increasing capacity and improving access to essential public services.

"Expanding the network of test centres is an important part of ensuring that learner drivers are supported to take their test and make progress towards getting fully licensed. I want to acknowledge the work underway by the RSA to respond to demand and strengthen the driver testing system.”
Brendan Walsh, Chief Operations Officer of the RSA, said: “The opening of this new driving test centre in Drogheda reflects our continued commitment to supporting learner drivers, improving access to services, and helping people to progress through the testing process as efficiently as possible.
"It is a positive step forward in expanding capacity and responding to demand in a practical and targeted way. Our priority is to maintain service levels, respond quickly to changes in demand, and support learner drivers across the country to access a test and move forward on their driving journey.”
The RSA will continue to monitor demand across its network and take further steps, where required, to support learner drivers and improve access to driving tests. This includes ongoing efforts to secure a suitable location in South Dublin, following the loss of a previously identified site in Sandyford, as well as progress on additional capacity in the Munster region.
