A MAJOR shake-up of several garda divisions across the country has been confirmed, and will come into affect today on Monday April 20 2026.
Details of the changes, which will see the allocation of Superintendents across seven different counties, have been announced by the Garda Commissioner today.
In Louth, a new superintendent has been allocated; Superintendent Michael Dorrigan, Dundalk Garda Station, with responsibility for Dundalk Community Engagement Functional Area.
Under a new Operating Model, garda divisions are headed by a divisional Chief Superintendent, who oversee four newly defined functional areas: Business Services; Performance and Assurance; Crime; and Community Engagement. Each of these functional areas is led by a Superintendent, with the exception of Business Services, which is led by an Assistant Principal Officer.
Allocations of Superintendents take effect from today, 20th April 2026 are as follows:

The following allocations of Chief Superintendents took effect, on promotion, from the 7th April 2026:
Chief Superintendent Des McTiernan on promotion to the DMR West Garda Division, Blanchardstown Garda Station.
Chief Superintendent Dermot McKenna on promotion to Internal Affairs, Garda Headquarters.
Chief Superintendent David Kennedy on promotion to DMR East Garda Division, Dún Laoghaire Garda Station.
Chief Superintendent Charles Armstrong on promotion to DMR North Central Garda Division, Store Street Garda Station.
