A 36-year-old man who verbally abused gardai in Dundalk while on a stag weekend has avoided a conviction after making a charitable donation at the local district court.
Kevin McTague of Drumcroman, Balinamore, Leitrim was before the court charged with resisting a peace officer, using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and being intoxicated in a public place at Rampart Lane, Dundalk on October 27th last.
Gardai who were on mobile patrol were flagged down by a doorman at Ridley’s on Park Street in relation to a highly intoxicated man who had been refused entry.
The court heard the defendant, who ran towards Rampart Lane to try and evade gardai, told them "F*** off you dirty c****. You'll do nothing" and obstructed a garda by kicking his legs out at him.
The Defence stressed that the incident was out of character for Mr McTague, who he said was on a stag weekend and doesn’t recall most of what occurred.
Judge Nicola Andrews put back the case to later in the list for a €500 donation to be produced.
After hearing when it was recalled that the sum had been handed over for the court community fund, the judge applied Section 1 (1) of the Probation of Offenders Act.
