A Tractor run and Christmas market will take place in Castlebellingham from 5pm -9pm this Sunday to raise funds for Suicide Awareness For Everyone (SAFE) Castlebellingham.
Money raised will go towards a dedicated 24 hour helpline and to provide a mobile unit for a counsellor to be situated in the villages as a drop-in centre for a few hours a week.
The service was set up by Patrick and Sandra Byrne in the wake of a number of tragedies in the village.
The Christmas Market will start from 5pm on the village green and tractors will be coming through the village at around 6.30 with all money raised going to the service.
Starting to assemble in the EliteForm yard from 12pm the tractor run will start at around 4:30pm and will make its way through the mid Louth area including:
- Dromiskin
- Mansfieldstown
- Stabannon
- Dromin School
- Rathescar
- Dunleer
- Kilsaran
PRO of the group Karen Dowling told the Democrat that the service is available to anyone not just people from Castlebellingham, with two registered councillors available for anybody who needs to talk.
They can be reached at:
Les : 086 254 4785
Lynn : 0871514976
The group wants to get out the message that If you need to talk to somebody confidentially and free of charge or if you are a family member or friend of somebody in need, this service is also for you.
Suicide is a very hard subject for families and friends affected to come to terms with .
Please help spread the word , you never know who may need it and let us help those around you in your community who may be struggling at this time of year and all year round .
And to stress that:
“We won't know who rang, why they rang or how many times they rang. Your call is 100% confidential between you and the counsellor.”
“We've all heard the phrase, "There's light at the end of the tunnel."
“For some, the tunnel is very long, and there may be a bend, so the light at the end is not visible. This is a terribly lonely and frightening place to be.
“There should be no need for someone to feel so desperate that they take their own life. We need to do what we can NOW and provide this service.”
