Club President Deanna MacGuinness, Captain Micheal O'Rourke and Lady Captain Siobhan Downey with donations for the Carrickmacross Food Bank
MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS
Once again, the weather gods co-operated for the Mannan Castle seniors. The frost and fog forecast failed to materialise and near perfect playing conditions for the time of the year were enjoyed by the big field.
Eddie Rouiller's form continues unabated. He had the best score for the 9 holes with 22 points, but a four-point penalty for his recent successes reduced that to 18.
Five players carded 19 points and had to be separated by countback. Denis Murphy, who lost out on countback the previous week, was victorious this time.
He finished ahead of Arthur Mulholland and Oliver Fox who were second and third. Graeme Woodcock and Peter Marquis lost out on countback.
Seniors 9 Hole Competition (9-hole handicap): 1st Denis Murphy (9)19pts, 2nd Arthur Mulholland (10) 19pts, 3rd Oliver Fox (6)19pts.
MANNAN CASTLE LADIES
Mary McCabe played very steady golf over all 13 holes this week, recording a couple of pars but significantly scoring on every hole.
Mary's 28 pts was enough to take the win on countback from Jo Morris who birdied the first and had five pars. However, she suffered a bit of a stumble at the turn which made the difference in the end. Nevertheless, Jo's 28 earned her second place in a week of good scoring through the field.
Winter 13 Hole Competition 30th November 2022: 1st Mary McCabe (25) 28 pts c/b, 2nd Jo Morris (17) 28 pts.
The Winter League enters its final week with Team Red Wing just out in front, followed by Team Robin and Team Chaffinch, with other teams also still in the reckoning. As we know, in golf everything can change on the back 9. It's not over till it's over.
Remember, there are individual category prizes up for grabs as well as the Team prize, so time for one final push, for yourself and for your team.
Many thanks to our friends in Daisy, Market Square, Carrickmacross, for sponsoring the League again this year. Check them out online or instore for yourself or for Christmas gifting.
In other news, over the past few weeks the club have run a food drive at Mannan Castle GC, both in the clubhouse and in the ProShop. A huge thanks to all our members, neighbours and friends who donated food and money. You have all been very generous.
Club President Deanna MacGuinness, Captain Micheal O'Rourke and Lady Captain Siobhan Downey dropped ten large boxes filled with groceries and €60 (3 separate donations of €20) to Carrickmacross Food Bank on Saturday.
If you would still like to donate food, please contact The Carrickmacross Foodbank directly. We are encouraging other clubs in the area to do the same, either for the Carrickmacross centre or for the many other great foodbanks in the region.
