A viral ghost hunter who fell in love with an online follower now explores haunted locations with her, where they claim one spirit asked her for a “totally inappropriate” sexual act.
Lee Steer, 38, and Sarah Carter, 32, first met in 2023 at a ghost-hunting event led by Lee and his then wife, a fellow paranormal investigator.
The couple began dating at the beginning of 2024 after Lee’s divorce and now live in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, where they run The Haunted Objects Museum, housing a collection of other-worldly objects.
After getting together Sarah said her belief in the paranormal has been solidified by a series of experiences including witnessing a microwave meal flip over by itself while staying at Lee’s house.
Together they launched the TikTok account Ghosts Of Britain and have grown a following of millions while exploring haunted locations and encountering unsettling spirits – they claim one made a sexual advance toward Sarah by telling her: “Suck my ****.”
Day to day, the pair claim they witness objects flying around the room, doors rattling and CCTV cameras moving by themselves in their haunted museum.
“It’s weird to say but it’s important to me that a partner believes in the paranormal because it’s a huge part of my life,” Lee told PA Real Life.
“I’ve dedicated my entire life to going out there and looking for the afterlife, and I can’t see myself ever stopping – I definitely need someone that can put up with all of that!”
Sarah added: “It was never important to me that I was with someone that believed in the paranormal, it was more that we had shared interests.
“We have a shared interest in the paranormal, and because of that we go to places we normally wouldn’t go.
“Now he’s just become irreplaceable and I can’t imagine not being with him.”
Before he met Sarah, Lee managed the museum alongside his then-wife, who shared his passion for ghost hunting.
In around 2020, Sarah discovered Lee and his ex-wife’s social media pages and became captivated by their paranormal explorations.
Three years later, Sarah attended a ghost-hunting event led by Lee and his then wife, further sparking her interest in the supernatural.
Lee and his ex-wife divorced in September 2023, and by early 2024, Sarah and Lee said their friendship blossomed into a relationship.
Lee said: “We met up, and I was going through a hard time with the divorce.
“I spoke about it with her and got it all off my chest, and we took it from there really.”
Sarah added: “I watched him for so long and could see the breakup happening quite publicly and I thought I’d put myself out there and ask how he was.
“I suppose we didn’t expect anything to come from it, I just wanted to show my support.”
Both were seeking partners who shared their interest in the paranormal, and while Sarah had always been a believer – having watched shows such as Most Haunted as a child – Lee helped solidify her beliefs.
One of Sarah’s most memorable supernatural encounters occurred early in their relationship when she stayed at Lee’s house and claims to have seen a ready-meal packet mysteriously flip over.
She recalled: “We had just returned from an investigation and were having a microwave meal.
“I saw the tray it comes in flip over completely 180 degrees and turn upside down.
“There was no mess, it was just a perfect turn, and there was no one else around.
“With Lee there, he’s so inquisitive, so we tried to replicate it by flipping it ourselves for hours, but we just couldn’t.
“I just knew it was something paranormal.”
Lee, meanwhile, has been fascinated by the paranormal since he was 14, when he believes he witnessed objects moving around his bedroom.
In February 2024, Lee and Sarah launched a new TikTok account, Ghosts Of Britain, and began running the museum and hosting events together.
Sarah left her previous job, which she prefers not to disclose, and over time, their social media following grew and grew – they now have 60,700 followers on TikTok, 2.8 million on Facebook, where they are known as Project Reveal – Ghosts Of Britain, and 15,200 on Instagram.
Together they have had numerous spine-chilling experiences, including a visit to Wath Town Hall, Rotherham, in August 2024 where they believe they sensed a spirit making advances toward Sarah.
The couple use a Panasonic RR-DR60 IC audio recorder from 1998 to record the ghosts – Lee believes that using a device with a “low bitrate rather than a high bitrate” means that it is “easier for a spirit to manipulate”.
“When we went to a haunted town hall, we heard that the person who died there was not very nice to women, and spirits can be quite crude,” Lee added.
“Our recording picked up a voice saying, ‘Suck my dot dot dot’ – you know.
“We could all hear it, a creepy deep voice – it was totally inappropriate.”
Sarah added: “It was weird. Lee had forewarned me that entities can be aggressive towards women – I was just asking him normal questions when it happened.
“He said a lot of seedy things, and I felt really uncomfortable.
“We’ve got this camera with sensors, and it picked up that there was a figure there, bending down and miming sexual actions toward me.”
At the museum, they report seeing objects move regularly and hearing voices.
They believe this is linked to newly acquired haunted artefacts, such as a window frame from The Amityville Horror house in Amityville, New York, infamous for a 1974 family murder and paranormal claims.
“We’ve got relics from Aleister Crowley’s house – he was a very famous occultist – and since his conjuring lamp appeared in the museum, we’ve noticed activity ramping up, with cameras moving,” Lee explained.
On several occasions, they claim their CCTV cameras have moved on their own or appeared tampered with, prompting Lee to install additional cameras to monitor the originals.
“There’s a very dark, horrible energy, and things have started happening all over the house,” Sarah said.
“One evening, the door was locked and it sounded like someone was trying to open it, but no one was outside.
“It was terrifying. Things like this still make me jump, but Lee is more inquisitive and wants to investigate it.”
Looking to the future, the couple hope to grow their social media presence even more.
For Halloween, they plan to open a Dibbuk box live on TikTok, which they believe could have a spirit inside, and on Bonfire Night, they have invited followers to send in unwanted haunted items which they will burn to see if there are any supernatural reactions.
