Polestar has upgraded its 3 electric SUV to help deliver shorter charging times and more performance than before.
Key to the upgrades is a new 800-volt electric charging architecture, which allows the 3 to accept a charging speed of up to 350kW. As a result, the batteries can be taken from 10 to 80 per cent charge in 22 minutes, representing a 25 per cent increase in speed compared with the previous model.
Alongside the charging upgrades, the new Polestar 3 range gets a higher-output rear electric motor across the range, with up to 670bhp now available in range-topping Performance models. In addition, the front motor of the Polestar 3 now gets an automatic disconnect function, turning it off when not needed. Because of this, the car can deliver better range and improved efficiency.
Michael Lohscheller, Polestar’s CEO, said: “The upgrades to Polestar 3 are so extensive, it’s like an entirely new car. With this upgrade, we continue to deliver on our commitment to add value for our customers through over-the-air software and hardware updates. The already amazing Polestar 3 is now better than ever.”
A new, more powerful computer processor has been included in the upgraded Polestar 3, too. With this new system, processing power has increased from 30 to 254 trillion operations per second, allowing the car to operate key safety systems while assessing sensor data more quickly.
For the 2026 model-year car, Polestar has revised the trim structure into Rear motor, Dual Motor and Performance specifications to make things clearer. It’ll also be reflected in the seat belt design; solid black is for Rear motor cars, black with a Swedish gold stripe for Dual motor versions and full gold for the range-topping Performance.
The new Polestar 3 is available to order now, with prices starting from £69,990.
