BMW’s F450 GS confirmed for launch next year

BMW has confirmed that its lightweight F450 GS adventure bike will be heading to the UK next year.

Having revealed a concept version of the bike last year, BMW has now stated that the F450 GS will arrive in dealerships in the spring, with prices starting from £6,990 and rising to £7,760 for range-topping GS Trophy models.

Powered by a two-cylinder in-line engine, the F450 GS produces 47bhp and 43Nm of torque, while a full stainless steel exhaust system allows the setup to breathe properly while creating a purposeful soundtrack.

That engine also allows the F450 GS to be A2-compliant for those riders on an applicable licence, while BMW claims that the bike should return over 60mpg combined thanks to an efficient design. Coupled with a 14-litre tank and that should mean a range of up to 217 miles from a full fill-up.

The engine is combined with an Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). At its heart, this system uses a centrifugal unit inside the clutch, which can engage the clutch depending on engine speed. Fitted as standard to GS Trophy bikes and available as an option on all other variants, the ERC can be combined with the Shift Assistant Pro package to allow users to ride without needing the clutch whatsoever. However, the traditional clutch lever can still be operated when needed or desired.

Three riding modes – Rain, Road and Enduro – come equipped on all bikes as standard, with each setting tweaking the bike’s setup to the conditions. An additional ‘Enduro’ mode – fitted on higher-spec motorbikes – has been designed for off-road use and when using a bike fitted with mud-grabbing off-road tyres.

As standard, the F450 GS sits on cast aluminium wheels with tubeless tyres for road and off-road use. Up front, there’s a single-disc brake with a Brembo four-piston caliper, while at the back you’ll find a single disc with a one-piston floating caliper. All versions get ABS-assisted braking, even when leaning through BMW’s Motorrad ABS Pro system.

To ensure that there’s a version to suit all types of riders, the F450 GS is being delivered in one of three seat variants – 830mm, 845mm and 865mm – while adjustable hand levers and optional handlebar riser help to tune the feel of the bike further.

All bikes get a 6.5-inch TFT display too as well as a USB-C charging port for keeping devices topped up when on the move.
