Mercedes has added to its CLA range with a new hybrid model, which has now gone on sale in the UK.
Priced from £38,700, the CLA hybrid provides an alternative to the electric model and uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which is linked to an electric motor and compact 1.3kWh battery.
Mercedes says that the CLA hybrid can drive on electric power alone ‘at urban speeds’, after which the combustion engine will be called into play. However, the German brand also says that the CLA hybrid can recuperate energy ‘in all eight gears’, meaning that electricity can be fed back into the battery when the car is slowing down or coasting.
In nearly all areas, the CLA hybrid mirrors the electric version’s appearance, aside from the grille which gets a Mercedes-Benz pattern in chrome. It’s also framed by an LED strip, which illuminates whenever the headlights are activated.
Inside, the CLA hybrid gets a 14-inch central screen as standard, while Mercedes’ ‘MBUX Superscreen’, which adds a 14-inch display for the passenger sitting up front, will come as standard on all cars from AMG Line Premium specification and above.
Specifications range from entry-level Sport with its fixed panoramic sunroof and adaptive cruise control, through to AMG Line Executive with its AMG bodystyle package and sports seats, before finishing with AMG Line Premium Plus, which gains a heated steering wheel and Burmester sound system, among other features.
The Mercedes CLA hybrid is available to order now, prior to first deliveries commencing in the first quarter of 2026.
