Lola Cars has announced a new run of cars based on its landmark T70.
The T70 was originally introduced in 1965 and won the 1969 Daytona 24 Hours where it beat the likes of Ford’s GT40 and the Porsche 908.
Now, the T70 has been ‘meticulously engineered’ for the modern day, ensuring it meets the latest requirements which allow it to be driven on either road or circuit. Available in road-going T70S GT or track-focused T70S specifications, the new car is available with a 5.0-litre small-block Chevrolet V8 engine with 530bhp.
The new T70S will go from 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds and will carry on to a top speed of 205mph.
Road-going T70S GT cars, meanwhile, get a 6.2-litre V8 engine with a slightly lower output of 500mph though, with a 0-60mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 200mph, it’s still a potent combination.
The GT also gets a number of tweaks to make it more comfortable to drive on the road, with highlights including climate control and ‘limited’ storage solutions, according to Lola. The gearbox and dampers have also been adjusted to suit on-road driving.
Mishern Chetty, CEO, Lola Cars, said: “The T70S project forms part of Lola’s broader strategic focus on cutting-edge performance technologies. Since 2022, as part of our mission to drive innovation through motorsport, we have invested heavily in the development of advanced materials, powertrain systems and supply chain innovations aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of high-performance vehicles.”
The whole exterior is made from a new Lola Natural Composite System (LNCS) which uses a combination of natural plant and basalt fibres mixed with a renewable resin created from sugar cane processing waste. The end result is a bodywork which is entirely petrochemical-free yet still rigid and stable.
