Mercedes has launched new versions of its GLE and GLS SUVs, introducing a range of enhancements that affect both cars’ interiors and exteriors.
Things kick off with the GLE, which will continue to be available in both SUV and Coupe specifications, with the latter bringing a more swept-back design. On the outside, the redesigned headlights now incorporate the Mercedes star, while a larger grille helps make a greater visual impact.
On the inside, the Mercedes ‘Superscreen’ display is now equipped as standard, bringing together a 14.4-inch central touchscreen with a 12.3-inch digital dashboard and 12.3-inch passenger display. The steering wheel has also been redesigned with updated buttons.
As before, the GLE SUV is available with seven seats, with the second row now electronically adjustable to improve legroom for those sitting in the row behind. Engines-wise, the GLE will be available with a six-cylinder diesel, a six-cylinder petrol and a six-cylinder plug-in hybrid capable of delivering up to 58 miles of electric-only range. At the top will sit a pair of AMG models, with the GLE 53 and GLE 53 Hybrid.
Switch to the GLS and things get larger overall, with this car acting as the SUV alternative to the brand’s luxurious S-Class saloon.
Like the GLE, the GLS gets a revised exterior with upgraded headlights and a newly designed grille. As before, the GLS will be available with up to seven seats and, as in the S-Class, there are now twin 11.2-inch screens for the middle-row occupants to watch entertainment on.
As in the GLE, the GLS now gets a Superscreen infotainment setup and a revised steering wheel, alongside an electrically-adjustable middle row. When it comes to engines, the GLS will be available with a straight-six diesel, as well as a range-topping V8 petrol.
Prices and UK specifications for both the GLE and GLS are expected to be announced shortly.
