Ford has given its Ranger pick-up truck another dimension with a new two-seat double-cab version.
Unlike the standard double-cab model, this new variant does without a rear seat bench and instead frees up space for storage. It gives users another dedicated load area for items which wouldn’t be best suited to storage in the traditional load bed at the back.
The rear seats have been removed, along with the seatbelts and back windows, with a full bulkhead put in place with aluminium panels covering the holes left by the windows. All versions get a heavy-duty loadspace liner and anchor points for tying down loose items.
Ford says that due to the two-seater’s bulkhead behind the front seats, this new model will qualify for 100 per cent of the plant and machinery allowance and be able to apply the flat rate of company car benefit-in-kind, making it a more appealing option to company vehicle buyers.
The Ranger two-seat also keeps the standard flat-rate road tax for commercial vehicles.
The new two-seater variant will launch in the popular Wildtrak specification, with both plug-in hybrid and diesel powertrains available. Wildtrak Rangers bring standard features such as a 12-inch multifunction display, a heated steering wheel and an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat.
Ford has yet to confirm pricing, though it’s likely that the new two-seat Ranger will undercut the standard double cab model, which starts at £30,800 excluding VAT.
