Updated Mercedes EQS brings new tech and 575-mile range

The Mercedes EQS has received updates to its on-board technology and electric drivetrain to make it go further on a single charge.

The EQS is Mercedes’ flagship electric luxury limousine, taking on cars such as the BMW i7.

For 2026, the EQS boasts a new 800-volt electrical architecture and features a larger 122kWh battery pack, which can take the car a claimed 575 miles on a single charge, in the ‘450+’ model. It also can be topped up at a speed of 350kW, with Mercedes claiming 199 miles of range can be added in 10 minutes.

Further updates include vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, which allows the car’s battery to feed power back into the public grid, when it’s charging, while the vehicle-to-home (V2H) function can send power directly into your home.

The car now comes with steer-by-wire technology, which replaces the mechanical connections between the steering wheel and front tyres for sensors that monitor driver input; sending electrical signals to actuators that can turn the wheels.

The exterior receives an illuminated Mercedes logo on the bonnet, star-shaped headlights, a backlit star-patterned front grille and revised bumpers.

Inside, the EQS is equipped with heated seatbelts – first seen on the new S-Class – while rear-seat passengers get dual 13.1-inch displays as part of the Mercedes ‘MBUX’ infotainment system. There is also a ‘Supercomputer’ with AI which can keep software up to date with over-the-air updates.

Mercedes has not revealed prices for the updated EQS, though it’s anticipated to start from around the £100,000 mark.
