Jaecoo adds hybrid powertrain to the 5 SUV range

Jaecoo has added its ‘Super Hybrid System’ powertrain to the 5 SUV range, which will sit between the model’s petrol and electric variants.

Jaecoo is a Chinese manufacturer that is owned by Chery Automotive. It forms part of the company’s ‘export strategy’ programme, introducing new brands to European markets, with Omoda and Lepas other marques that fall under the same ownership.

The Jaecoo 5 hybrid uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor that produces 221bhp and 310Nm of torque. It can hit 60mph in 7.7 seconds and the car will run at a top speed of 108mph.

Jaecoo claims that the 5 fitted with the ‘SHS-H’ powertrain can travel up to 650 miles on one tank of fuel.

There are two trim levels with the standard Pure car coming with kit such as a 13.2-inch portrait infotainment system, a six-speaker Sony premium sound system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The flagship Luxury models boast extras such as an upgraded eight-speaker Sony audio system, a tilt and slide electric sunroof and heated and ventilated front seats.

Prices will start at £26,270 and rise to £29,765, while deliveries are expected to commence in the third quarter of this year.
