BYD plans to launch its first commercial vehicle with the Dolphin Cargo e-Van

BYD has revealed its first attempt at the commercial vehicle market with the Dolphin Cargo e-Van.

BYD is one of the most successful Chinese car brands here in the UK, and the Dolphin Cargo is a car-derived van that comes as standard with an electric powertrain.

The Dolphin Cargo e-Van is based on a standard BYD Dolphin with the rear seats removed and replaced with a solid bulkhead and a re-engineered rear floor. That gives it a total load capacity of more than 1,000 litres, while the rear windows have been blacked out to make it look more conventional.

Underneath, the Cargo e-Van is equipped with the same 60.4kWh battery pack and electric motor as the standard Dolphin, which produces 201bhp and 310Nm of torque, while BYD claim the vehicle can manage up to 265 miles on a single charge.

The van will also be compatible with 88kW DC rapid-charging speeds, allowing a 30 to 80 per cent top-up to be completed in 29 minutes.

The BYD Dolphin Cargo e-Van will make its debut at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, taking place at the NEC, Birmingham, on April 21 to April 23. Further details on the van will be revealed soon.
