Smart reveals design sketches of #2 electric city car

Smart has revealed design sketches of the upcoming #2 electric city car with a concept variant.

The #2 will be a two-seater A-segment EV, and is a direct replacement to the firm’s Fortwo combustion-powered city car that kick-started the brand back in the late 1990s.

Details on the #2 are limited at this stage, though Smart does say that the car will utilise the marque’s ‘Love, Pure, Unexpected’ design language.

The exterior will feature a matte white and warm gold two-tone contrasting paint scheme, while at the front, there are buckles on the front grille to mimic a leather strap, triangular-styled headlights and sculpted front air ducts in the bumper to improve airflow.

The side profile of the #2 show reminiscence of the Smart Fortwo of yesteryear with flared wheel arches, tall doorlines and beefy alloy wheels. At the back, there is a kick-up rear spoiler and circular lights to give it a sporty, yet distinctive look.

Details on the car’s interior have not been revealed at this stage, though it’s anticipated to have similar design elements of Smart’s larger models.

The firm has not revealed the size of the battery pack or its powertrain figures, with more details to follow later this year.

Smart will use this year’s Beijing Auto Show to reveal the Concept #2 city car, taking place from April 24 to May 3.
