Morgan has introduced a new flagship model with the Supersport 400.
Building on the standard Supersport, the new 400 model arrives as the Malvern firm’s most powerful production vehicle to date. With its BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, the Supersport 400 produces 402bhp and 500Nm of torque and, as a result, will manage the 0-60mph sprint in 3.3 seconds and top out at 180mph.
That engine is linked to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Unlike the regular Supersport, the 400 also gets a revised gear selector with the standard car using the same as BMW’s road cars. A specially-tuned performance exhaust system is equipped to help provide a more vocal exhaust sound.
The standard Supersport was launched last year, bringing a lightweight alumnium platform and a combination of both old-school building techniques and the very latest materials.
The 400 comes as standard with Morgan’s Dynamic Handling Pack which adds adjustable front and rear dampers to help make the whole car more agile. The Supersport 400’s suspension geometry and damping characteristics have also been revised, while a limited-slip differential can be added as an optional extra.
Jonathan Wells, chief design officer, Morgan Motor Company, said: “Morgan has long been recognised for craftsmanship, quality, story-rich design detail, and for delivering joyful driving experiences. Our cars enable personal expression through elegant, often eccentric proportions, brought to life by skilled artisans and informed by modern technology.
“Supersport 400 builds on that foundation, but more importantly moves us forward, establishing Morgan as a credible high-performance sports car manufacturer, benchmarked against the best in the world.”
Inside, the Supersport 400 gets a full leather interior with a range of Alcantara-trimmed pieces. There’s a stitch pattern unique to the Supersport 400, which is used throughout the car’s cabin, too, while bespoke instruments set the whole thing off.
Production of the Supersport 400 will start in May and will be built in ‘carefully managed volumes’, though it won’t be limited. Each one is priced from £112,965 plus local taxes.
