2025 marked romantic pinnacle for heartbreak songstress Taylor Swift

If 2024 was the year Taylor Swift’s career hit a stratospheric pinnacle with the culmination of her record-breaking Eras Tour, then 2025 was the year her romantic life reached new heights.

The announcement of her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce in August made global headlines and became one of the most-liked Instagram posts of all time, racking up more than 30 million likes in under 24 hours.

She captioned the photos, which show the Kansas City Chiefs tight end down on one knee in front of elaborate floral arrangements in the garden of his house: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

For an artist who has built so much of her musical canon around heartbreak, the news prompted fans around the world to celebrate this landmark moment in Swift’s romantic life.

She had previously written songs about doomed romances with high profile figures including Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Harry Styles and Matty Healy.

Kelce proposed with an Old Mine Brilliant Cut ring designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewellery.

It came shortly after she appeared on his podcast, New Heights, to announce the impending release of her 12th studio album.

Discussing the proposal on The Graham Norton Show, Swift said: “He really crushed it in surprising me.  While we were talking on his podcast, he had a complete garden built out the back of his house to propose in. He went all out – 10 out of 10.”

Kelce told Fox Sports: “The palms were definitely sweating. I’m an emotional guy, so there were a few tears here and there, but it’s been an exciting, exciting ride up to this day, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.”

The couple will reportedly tie the knot in Rhode Island in 2026.

There were also huge professional victories for Swift in 2025 too – in May she finally reclaimed her master recordings, giving her control over her entire back catalogue.

The move happened midway through her project to re-record all her first six albums, after a dispute with retired talent manager Scooter Braun, who acquired the recordings when he bought her former label.

Though the masters changed hands again after a deal with private equity firm Shamrock Capital, Swift continued with a bid to regain ownership of the music by creating new versions of the songs.

In a letter on her website she announced she had purchased the rights to all of her concert films, music videos, album art and photography, as well as unreleased songs.

She also confirmed she will release Taylor’s Version re-recordings of her self-titled and Reputation albums.

Swift said the process of gaining ownership of her work was “honest, fair, and respectful” and said she was “endlessly thankful” to Shamrock Capital, which offered her the deal.

The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Another professional triumph came in October when she released her 12th studio album The Life Of A Showgirl, which quickly secured the biggest opening week of the year and the biggest opening week of her career – and gave an insight into her romance with Kelce.

The Life Of A Showgirl also became the UK’s fastest-selling album on vinyl this century and had the most UK album streams in a week, the Official Charts Company said.

The release was accompanied by a cinematic event – The Official Release Party Of A Showgirl – which ran for three days and featured the world premiere of the music video for lead single The Fate Of Ophelia, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of how it was made, as well as lyric videos for the rest of the album.

Swift also released a six-episode docuseries about her Eras Tour on Disney+, as well as an updated Eras Tour concert film, The Final Show.

The series showed her crying and being comforted by her mother after meeting the families of the Southport attack.

The knife attack saw Axel Rudakubana kill three young girls and injure 10 people attending a Swift-themed dance class in the Merseyside seaside town in July last year.

Swift also spoke about a failed terror plot at one of her Eras Tour shows in Vienna, Austria.

In December she was confirmed she was the UK’s most streamed artist on Spotify for the third year in a row.
