Dublin Council says area where sinkhole was found is now 'safe again'

Dublin City Council have said an area where a sinkhole was found on Wednesday, is now safe again.

The sinkhole appeared in a Sandymount village yesterday at around 4.30pm outside a shop.

The area was cordoned off by Gardaí and an inspection followed by Dublin County Council roads maintenance team.

A statement from the Council assured the public the area was safe again following temporary repairs,

"Further investigations will be carried out today in order to determine the underlying cause that resulted in the formation of the sinkhole."

Permanent repairs of the sinkhole are to follow shortly.
