The seizure was made in the Tallaght area of Dublin
A significant quantity of cannabis was seized by gardai after they encountered a man who was transporting the drugs on an electric bike.
The detection was made by gardaí from Tallaght in Dublin who were were out on transport patrols when they spotted a male with his face covered.
According to a gardai, the male "who was acting suspiciously" fled as he was being approached by gardai.
However, he left his bag behind and it was subsequently seized and found to contain cannabis with an estimated value of €40,000.
The e-bike was also seized by gardai and investigations are ongoing.
The cannabis will be sent for forensic analysis.
