An investigation has been launched by gardaí following a daring daytime burglary in Mayo on Thursday in which a getaway vehicle was allegedly shot at.
The incident took place in Ballyhaunis, a small town at the crossroads between the N83 and N60.
The Irish Mirror reported that a man was allegedly spotted attempting to steal goods at the side of the house, where a number of items were stored.
According the Mirror, the owner of the items allegedly saw this transpire, hiding with his gun as he awaited a getaway vehicle to arrive.

When a getaway van pulled up to collect the wannabe thief, along with the goods he allegedly attempted to steal, the other man is alleged to have jumped up and blasted a hole in the engine of the van before the men took off.
The vehicle reportedly only made it a short journey before breaking down, with the two men making a run for it before armed Gardaí arrived at the scene.
Gardaí said in a statement: "Gardaí are investigating a burglary at a premises in Ballyhaunis, County Mayo this afternoon, Thursday, 11th July 2024."
"It is understood a firearm was discharged during the course of the incident. No injuries have been reported at this time.
"Investigations are ongoing."
