A man in his 40s has died in Dublin after being struck by a stolen car in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision on the coast road in Baldoyle, Dublin 13 which occurred shortly before 1am on Wednesday 17th July.
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian, and confirmed the pedestrian was fatally injured.
The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.
The car involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene. It's understood gardaí received reports of a car, which was stolen earlier that night, driving erratically in the area.
The road was closed overnight to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Gardai had sealed off the scene of the accident, where a blue tent was visible.
Local diversions are in place in the area, and bus routes have been affected since this morning.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Howth Garda Station on 01 666 4900, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
