Garda probe launched after vicious group assault of 12 year-old girl during hurling match

Gardaí in Wexford are investigating after video has circulated of a vicious attack carried out on a young girl by a group of young females outside a popular GAA stadium.

The incident took place on Sunday evening at around 6 p.m. during the Senior Hurling Preliminary Quarter Final clash between the Rapparees and Oulart The Ballagh.

The Wexford People reported that the attack took place at the town end of Wexford Park.

Viral footage of the brutal assault has circulated online, showing a group of young girls joining to attack another.

The young victim is quickly overwhelmed, pulled to the ground and kicked in the head. One of the attackers is seemingly the one behind the camera, as little is done to stop the attack.

At one point, the victim's hair is pulled to lift her head up before another kick to the face is delivered.

There appears to be at least seven girls in the group attacking the victim, with some seemingly younger members not joining in the assault but cheering the group on.

“She’s not even crying,” one of the onlookers shouts. “Make her cry! Make her cry!”

The Wexford People reported that the victim, a 12-year-old local, was rushed to Wexford General Hospital after the assault, where she was luckily treated for minor injuries including cuts, scrapes and bruises.

Wexford GAA was made aware of the incident, and a letter was circulated to clubs across the county regarding the issue.

"Wexford GAA seeks to provide a safe and family atmosphere for all attending our games, and will take all necessary steps to achieve this. There will be zero tolerance of unacceptable behaviour," Wexford GAA said in a statement on social media.

A letter was circulated by Wexford GAA to all clubs on Monday, which raised this very issue.
