'A bright, kind and fun loving boy' - Tributes paid as young man killed in crash named locally

Tributes have poured in after the victim of a fatal crash in Wicklow last week was named locally.

Adam Slater passed away from his injuries following a car crash on Thursday evening, when the car he was driving collided with another vehicle on the R753 between Ballinaclash and Aughrim, co. Wicklow shortly after 8.30m.

The Aughrim native passed away in the care of St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin on Friday.

In his death notice, parents Conor and Adrienne said Adam was "surrounded by his friends and family" on Friday, and said the 23 year old was the "first born of our treasured triplets".

Adam is sorely missed by his parents, his loving siblings of Billy and Emily, and adored partner Hazel.

He is also missed by a large circle of family and friends.

A college friend of Adam left a heartbreaking condolence, saying he was "one of the kindest and funniest people I’ve known".

"His genuine spirit brought so much joy to those around him. I feel so lucky to have shared four years at university with him. May he rest in peace," the condolence read.

A former teacher described Adam as "a bright, kind and fun loving boy in school who spread smiles and joy where ever he went".

Funeral arrangements for Adam will be made at a later date.

A young girl who was a passenger in the second car of the Thursday crash was brought to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin as a precaution.

In a statement, Gardaí have appealed to road users who may have dash cam video and were driving in the vicinity at the time of the event to provide the material to the investigating gardaí.
