Rare cancer risk warning issued over popular product sold to Irish shoppers online
An alert has been issued over a cancer risk posed by a product sold online to Irish shoppers.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) reported the issue recently. They say a safety issue has been identified with a Uppblåsbar strandboll Beach Ball sold on the Shein online marketplace which is popular with Irish shoppers.
The CCPC says: "The product presents a chemical risk due to the excessive concentrations of phthalates in the pink plastic material of the ball, which can harm children’s health by potentially damaging their reproductive system.
"Additionally, the product contains short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs), This poses significant risks to both human health and the environment. Prolonged skin exposure to SCCPs may also increase the risk of cancer."
The type/number of model is GU01404. The barcode is B240425141217. The brand and batch number are unknown.
