Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following what's being described as a 'road traffic incident' in County Kerry in the early hours of this Sunday morning.

They say the alarm was raised at approximately 12:45am when emergency services were alerted after a cyclist was found unresponsive on the roadside at Bracker O’Regan Road, Tralee.

"The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was riding an electric bike at the time of the incident. He received treatment at the scene before being transported by ambulance to University Hospital Kerry, where his injuries are understood to be serious," said a garda spokesperson.

A technical examination of the scene has been carried out and the road has since reopened to traffic.

An investigation is underway and gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also seeking any camera footage, including dashcam video, from those who were travelling in the area at the time, as it may assist with the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tralee garda station at 066 710 2300, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
