Irish mum in coma with 'serious brain injury' following horror fall on family holiday

A fundraising appeal has been launched for an Irish mother who suffered a serious brain injury following a fall while on a family holiday in Turkey last month.

Stacey Callan from Drogheda, Co Louth was holidaying in Turkey with her partner and two kids when she suffered the fall which caused a serious brain injury, leaving her in a coma in a Turkish ICU.

A GoFundMe campaign which has raised over €26,000 of the €50,000 target at the time of writing was launched by her family, with over 875 people contributing to the fundraising efforts.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, family members Joanne and Wendy said: "We never thought we would have to write this but in October 2024 Stacey Callan suffered a serious brain injury following a fall, whilst on holiday with her partner and two young children.

"Stacey is currently in a coma in a hospital in Turkey. Whilst Stacey and her family took out travel insurance, the insurance company are refusing to pay out at this time.

"We will continue to work with the insurance company to resolve any queries they may have but we're urgently asking for your help to reduce the overwhelming financial burden of this tragic accident for Stacey and her family, so they can focus on Stacey's recovery."

Speaking of Stacey's recovery and the financial costs, they said: "Stacey has a long road to recovery ahead of her, she has been in for the last 5 days and the current charges for this stands at €20,000 and looking at €2,000 per day going forward. Any donation made, would be very greatly appreciated."

Other fundraising events have been organised including 'Stacey's Benefit Night' in Greenmount House, Drogheda on Saturday, October 26 at 8.30pm and a Coffee Morning at The Market House, Dunleer On Sunday, October 27 at 11.30am.

To date, the GoFundMe has already raised over €26,000 and you can donate here.
