'A fine young man taken too soon' - Heartfelt tributes paid for young man killed in car crash

Tributes have poured in following the tragic news of the passing of Galway native Simon Quinn three days after being injured in a car crash.

Simon, aged in his 20s, was hospitalised following an early morning crash on the R360 at Ballintava, Dunmore, Co Galway on Friday.

Simon, the driver in the single-vehicle crash, was rushed to University Hospital Galway along with a passenger of the car, and sadly died from his injuries on Monday.

In the young man's death notice, Simon is described as the "beloved" son of Francis (Fred) and Carmel, adored brother of Aaron and Iarla, and brother-in-law of Liam Nutley.

Hailing from Liss in Abbeyknockmoy, Tuam, Simon's death notice says that the young Galway man will be deeply missed by his parents, siblings, brother-in-law, grandparents Brendan and Sheila Connolly (Abbeyknockmoy) and Mary Quinn (Tuam), his uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, and his wide circle of friends.

Many have paid tribute to Simon online, who was heavily involved with local sports clubs.

Kilconly GAA shared the news of Simon's passing in a post online, saying: "We wish to extend our condolences to Madeline Quinn and family following the recent passing of Simon Quinn. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam".

Abbeyknockmoy soccer club St Bernard's also took to social media to pay their respects to the family, extend their condolences following the "tragic passing" of Simon.

Local councillor Declan Geraghty told Shannonside FM that the area is "in shock" and feelings are low, adding that Simon and his family are "beautiful people".

"I appeal to every person that's on the road - slow down, take yur time, and most of all be in control of your vehicle. That will save lives," Geraghty added.

Many others left heartfelt tributes to Simon on RIP.ie, describing him as "a fine young man that was taken too soon".

A friend of Simon's wrote that she was "forever grateful to have known what a kind person and friend you were," adding that he "will be missed so dearly".

Simon will repose at his family home in Liss, Abbeyknockmoy on Wednesday evening. Removal from his home will take place on Thursday morning, followed by Requiem Mass at St. Bernard’s Church, Abbeyknockmoy at 12pm. Simon will then be buried in Abbeyknockmoy Cemetery.
