A cyclist who was found unresponsive on the side of a road in County Kerry at the weekend has died in hospital, gardai have confirmed.

The alarm was raised at approximately 12.45am on Sunday after emergency services were alerted when the man was found  on the roadside at Bracker O’Regan Road, Tralee.

"The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was riding an electric bike at the time of the incident," said a spokesperson. It's not believed that any other vehicle was involved.

The man was conveyed to University Hospital Kerry after the incident and he has since died from his injuries.

Gardai say the local coroner has been notified and that arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination to be carried out.

They are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, particularly anybody who was travelling in the area or who provided assistance to the cyclist between 12.20am and 12.50am on Sunday.

Any motorists with dashcam and mobile phone footage, are asked to make the footage available to gardai.
