'The silence after she said that speaks volumes' - Viewers react to Saoirse Ronan on Graham Norton Show

Saoirse Ronan left fellow panelists including Paul Mescal silent with quick-witted comment on women's safety

'The silence after she said that speaks volumes"- Viewers react to Saoirse Ronan on Graham Norton show

Social media users have been coming out in droves to praise actor Saoirse Ronan following her appearance on Graham Norton over the weekend.

The panel of guests included fellow Irish actor Paul Mescal, Eddie Redmayne and Denzel Washington with Ronan being the only woman on the panel. Ronan made sure to have her say as the other three male guests began joking about advice Eddie said he received to use his phone as a weapon while learning self-defence.

In response to Paul Mescal's comment: "Who is actually going to think about that?" Ronan clapped back with a quick response saying: "That's what girls have to think about all the time."

The Lady Bird actor's quick-witted response has been met with an outpouring of praise and gratitude on social media especially from women and girls as many of them highlighted how Ronan's comment rang true for them.

Others took to social media to praise Ronan while also criticising the behaviour of the male guests as it appeared the actor had to, as one social media user put it, "almost fight" to make her point.

The person tweeted the clip from the Graham Norton show saying: "The thing that angered me the most is that Saoirse Ronan, the only woman on the panel, had to almost fight to make her point amongst a group of laughing men who didn’t consider her input or the experiences of women. Almost as if that’s the entire f*cking problem isn’t it?"

Another Twitter/X user said: "Saoirse Ronan is a queen. Men need a reminder what it’s like being a woman so they can appreciate their privilege. The silence after she said that speaks volumes."

Other tweets included one drawing similarities to when Grace and Frankie actor Lily Tomlin walked off the Dick Gavett show following a crude comment another guest made about his own wife.

The tweet said: "the recent saoirse ronan clip got me thinking about when lily tomlin walked off mid interview when a fellow actor referred to his wife as "the most beautiful animal i own" and honestly good for her!!"
